The Evolution of Leading Large-Language Models in 2024: ChatGPT, Gemini, CoPilot, and Claude

In 2024, ChatGPT, Gemini, CoPilot, and Claude are among the most prominent large-language models (LLMs) available. Each has undergone significant updates and refinements over the past few months, shaping the landscape of AI-powered tools.

Recent Developments and Comparisons

ChatGPT was the first to launch its latest version, ChatGPT-4O. This swift update likely prompted other platforms to expedite their own releases. To keep this brief, I won’t delve into the details of each LLM and their ownership—please refer to my other articles for comprehensive information.

CoPilot is distinct from the others due to its primary focus on Microsoft 365 integration rather than general AI capabilities. While CoPilot operates on the same engine as ChatGPT-4, it has certain limitations. Consequently, CoPilot doesn’t directly compete with ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude. It’s worth noting that Microsoft, the owner of CoPilot, is a major shareholder in OpenAI, the organization behind ChatGPT, making direct comparisons somewhat inaccurate.

Claude features three models: Claude 3 Haiku (entry-level), Claude 3.5 Sonnet (mid-tier), and Claude 3 Opus (top-tier). The latest, Claude 3.5 Sonnet, was released in June 2024. Some YouTubers have claimed that Claude 3.5 Sonnet is more powerful than ChatGPT. However, this isn’t entirely accurate. Each LLM has its strengths:

ChatGPT excels in language and text processing.
Gemini is strong in web searches and handling large volumes of information.
Claude 3.5 Sonnet stands out in vision and graphics capabilities.
While Claude 3.5 Sonnet’s prowess in video, graphics, and vision is notable, claiming it surpasses ChatGPT solely based on these attributes is misleading.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Gemini, despite its power, struggles with elementary calculations and numbering errors. Nevertheless, it remains a robust LLM with significant capabilities.

ChatGPT continues to lead in overall language and text processing. When considering all aspects of an LLM, ChatGPT remains the frontrunner.
